First batch of ECUs are here and available

Yes at last! The first batch are here \o/.

I have 5 devices for each gen of bike (1, 2 and 3), and the first couple of devices are already with customers.

I know we were going to start off with only devices for Gen3 bikes, but it was pointed out to me that there’s not really such a thing as a “stock” gen1, so expecting to make maps to cover all the modifications might be a bit beyond me, certainly for the time being.

Also it turns out there’s a fair few folks out there who would be quite happy building/adjusting a map for their own specific bike.

For that reason, whilst I can offer the Gen3 model with a map for a stock R125 (UK/EU spec), we’ve decided to also make the Gen2 and Gen1 devices available for sale “AS IS”.

That means they will come with a map for the Asian R15 model (150cc) which *will need adjusting* for UK spec bikes.

So please only consider buying a Gen1 or Gen2 version if you are happy making/adjusting your own map, or are going to get it tuned on a dyno. For the moment, these should be considered “for expert/tuners only”.

For Gen3: you get a map for the UK stock bike with it and that’ll be included when I set the device up for you before sending, so stock bikes can just plug in and ride. If you have additional modifications beyond that your map may need some further adjustment to get the most out of it.

I’m about to attempt a bunch of updates on my Gen1, including switching to Tuneboss management, so there will likely be 180cc maps and installation notes for Gen1 quite soon. The stock 125cc maps will take a little longer as I have to build a stock 125cc motor first, which will take time (possibly a good winter project).

Unfortunately I don’t currently have a Gen2 bike, and that’s not likely to change any time soon, so I can only be of limited help there.

As soon as I have maps available I’ll be publishing them via this site, and as I further improve the map on my Gen3 I’ll publish updates for that too. I’m hoping once things have settled down we can get it on a “proper” dyno and see if they can improve on my map.

If you are considering a Tuneboss device, particularly for Gen1 or Gen 2 where the map will need adjusting, before you go any further you might want to take a look at the new support pages.

I’ve been writing these recently and have tried to cover everything from installing the device in the bike, a few “how to” guides, and there’s also a whole section covering every screen/option on the app (which is how you change settings on the ECU), explaining what they do and how to use them.

How to buy

There is no “buy now” button. These are quite advanced (complex) devices and I want to make sure folks are getting the right thing and know what they’re getting into so I’m not dealing with returns or unhappy customers.

So if you want one, drop me an email and we’ll organise it from there. If you are a tuner/advanced user please let me know when you email as that will save time.

They cost £299 including priority post within the UK.

I hope to be able to send them from inside the EU soon, but that’s taken longer to organise, so for now if ordering from the EU, there will be additional postage costs, and likely some import duty on top of that (imposed by your country).

We should have matching wideband o2 sensors and quickshift kits available too at some point, but again, those bits have taken longer to organise.

There should be further batches of ECUs to follow, but for now what I have is what there is, and as far as I’m aware these are the only ones available outside Asia.

Note re the MT-125:

We are trying to figure out if the ECU will work on the MT-125, but since I don’t have one to test with I’m relying on feedback from you folks. Once I know whether it works I’ll let it be known. Officially the Tuneboss only supports the R125 but I think there’s a good chance it might work.

What needs to happen is someone with an MT gets hold of an ECU from the equivalent R125 and tries it in their bike. If it runs and the dash/speedo etc work and there’s no weird errors, then there’s a very good chance the Tuneboss ECU will work in the MT.

Whilst they’re very similar bikes, apparently Yamaha have a habit of changing one or two pins on the ECU, which can cause compatibility issues.

Since the Tuneboss only officially supports the R125, if we plug one into an MT and it somehow damages the ECU then the warranty would be void so I’m not in a hurry to do that. Testing with a stock ECU would be much cheaper if there is an issue.

If you have an MT and want to test with a stock R125 ECU then please get in touch. I’m happy to help fund this research.
